May General Election
A general local election is held each year in May to fill vacancies for City Council. At times, special elections may be held in November.
The next local election is scheduled for
Saturday, May 6, 2023, for Mayor and City Council Places 2 and 4. Candidates are elected to a two-year term of office.

City Council Members
The City of Gunter operates under a council-manager form of government. The mayor and City Council set the policy and direction for the city. The citizens of Gunter elect the mayor and five at-large council members for two-year staggered terms. The council appoints a City Manager to manage day-to-day operations.
Terms for the City Council expire as follows:
- Mayor and Place Numbers 2 and 4 - May 2023
- Place Numbers 1, 3 and 5 - May 2024
